About Lynchburg Handyman

karl armbrust, owner of crossbow services llc, a handyman business in lynchburg va

Hi, I am Karl Armbrust, Owner/Operator of Lynchburg Handyman.

I am grateful you have visited my website. If you are looking for repairs or maintenance for your home or business, you will want to know more about me.

History of my working career

I began my work in maintenance and repairs early—Dad owned rental property and I had a paintbrush in my hand before I started Junior High. Dad was not particularly handy, so I had to learn on my own. But Dad was all work and no play—I picked up much of my work ethic from him.

I detoured from working with my hands when I went to college, earned a degree in hotel management, and worked for a large hotel company for 6 years. I began to return to my roots by moving back to my Omaha home town and working in real estate sales for about 10 years. My real estate sales career included working for a volume home builder—absorbing much from those years to know how houses are put together.

Next I worked for a relocation company providing relocation benefits to corporate employees who were transferred to a new city. For 16 years, I analyzed home inspection reports and worked with real estate agents to buy and re-sell transferees’ homes. The office work was ok, but I still liked working with my hands.

While working in the office job I utilized and developed my handyman skills as follows:

  • Helped build Habitat for Humanity homes.
  • Disaster relief work with the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief organization—flood relief, chainsaw work after tornadoes, trained others in chainsaw work
  • Bought and renovated a house for use as rental property. Sold it a few years later for a profit.

My office work ended when I was “down-sized”. The down-sizing was a blessing in disguise, because it led me to work as a handyman. I worked the next 4 years for Handyman Joes in Omaha, Nebraska. I was a technician, but also did some estimating. The pace of work was relentless—they brought in over $1 Million revenue each of the 4 years I was there. I thoroughly enjoyed the work, and I might still be there if not for family needing me to move to Lynchburg. Now that I’m settled here with my family, it’s time to get back to the work I love!

In addition to my work history, some things you may want to know about me:

  • Jesus follower. Member and ordained deacon in Southern Baptist church
  • Married to Teresa since 1990
  • Father to two children—now adults
